Abstract
JRB 242: Intro to Media (called Fundamentals of Media through Spring 2022) deserves status as an oral general education course. Students are required to make group presentations three times per semester on a relevant current events topic that pertains to the course and textbook readings. Topics range from the digital divide to net neutrality to diffusions of innovation theory. Students learn critical thinking skills through writing their papers but also learn how to effectively convey this research to an audience of their peers. Students are graded on this work and receive peer feedback in order to learn how to become stronger oral communicators.
