Abstract

HON 112 is required for all first-year Honors students. It is a four-credit course that fulfills two GE (Q and W) and the APS requirements. APS SLOs (the fourth credit) are satisfied through a combination of instructional activities at meetings of HON 112, advisement meetings between HON 112 instructors and first-year students (typically one per semester), and mandatory one hour a week meetings of first-years led by Honors peer mentors, with attendance and performance reflected in students' HON 112 grades. We propose reregistering HON 112 as a 3 credit course that satisfies only the Q and W GE requirements. The fourth credit will be shifted to Honors sections of GEP 100, which will fulfill APS SLOs. As is the practice in all GEP 100 sections, recruited instructors will serve as the academic advisors for Honors students in their first semester. Honor peer mentors will be assigned to HON-GEP 100 sections, but there will be no weekly meetings led by peer mentors outside of the scheduled GEP 100 meetings.
