Abstract
The CMC supports digital literacy and the use of emerging media tools in teaching, learning, and communicating at Old Westbury and in the community beyond. This mission is fulfilled by collaborating across disciplines and with community partners to support community engaged and research-based media projects. The CMC supports simple“gateway” projects with the aim of helping students become independent, life-long digital learners. A digital literacy version of a Writing Center, CMC utilizes free, online tools to support digital production across the curriculum.Understanding that some students have limited equipment, software and Internet access, we use free, online tools that require no downloads to better support students who depend upon public computers or mobile devices. CMC supports digital production across the disciplines by helping instructors design digital assignments and by providing workshops, online tutorials and peer tutoring. This blended model allows us to support all students in digital humanities production, while providing individualized help to new digital learners, thereby narrowing the participation gap.
