Abstract
Accreditation is important in higher education because it compels institutions to demonstrate to the public that the education they are providing is of high quality. In 2013 the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) updated its standards and identified five standards, which must be met by institutions in order to receive CAEP accreditation. The purpose of this study is to conduct a secondary analysis of existing data provided by the Professional Education Unit at The College at Brockport, SUNY to assess the extent to which CAEP standard 1 is being met. Standard 1 revolves around the amount that colleges prepare students to implement content knowledge in the teaching profession. Two aspects of standard 1 will be analyzed. The first is the manner and degree to which The College at Brockport prepares future teachers to use a variety of instructional strategies to ensure that students with varying learning styles can establish deep understanding of the content knowledge. The second facet assessed will be the use of common core standards by future teachers at The College at Brockport in their lesson planning and instructions.
