Abstract

As our baby boomers grow older and the elderly population is increasing, elder abuse has become an increasing problem which many states are responding to. In the United States, New York is the only state who has not enacted mandated reporting of elder abuse. The purpose of this paper is to examine Mandated Reporting of elder abuse laws across the United States and see what was successful versus what wasn't successful. Through comparing various states laws and examining what states were successful in their education efforts to professionals as well as preparation for increased reporting of elder abuse, New York will be able to identify possible first steps toward adapting mandated reporting of elder abuse through the example of others.
