Abstract
A summary of the meeting held in Sidney, B.C., Canada, 1-5 September 1980, the UNESCO/ICES/SCOR/IAPSO Joint Panel on Oceanogrpahic Tables and Standards (JPOTS) adopted a new practical salinity scale, and a new equation of the state of seawater. Complete reference listing of the most important background papers is given at the end of this report.
