Abstract
"Brockport State Men's Soccer: The Hotbed Era of the 1950s through the 1970s" covers a very interesting period when the sport at the school had captured the attention of intercollegiate soccer personnel, players and fans across the U.S.
Description
Excerpts from the book's Forward by the author:
Brockport State Men’s Soccer: The Hotbed Era of the 1950s through the 1970s began with the thought to re-create the history of the program for the university to reference. I was aware that this period had been an exciting and very special time when the feats of the soccer team had the eyes of the nation focused on little Brockport.
Beyond statistics, there were fascinating stories to be told. Huntley Parker as the first superior Head Coach to quickly grow the program to National prominence with a consensus Co-Championship. The unusual number of players who received All-America honor at that time. The burning desire by Bill Hughes to have the team ranked among the best in the country. The school refusing to fund the team for participation in a NCAA post-season Tournament. The very next year, Walt Kopczuk, the Head Coach on an interim assignment, leading the team to the first NCAA Division III title and the first crown for Brockport that is won by game results. Hughes returning to guide the team back to the final and then Kopczuk again on the scene to have the squad in the final for a third consecutive year.
After devoting many evenings and weekends over roughly two years of research and writing, I believe that my compilation is very accurate. Any errors or omissions would be due to data that was unsubstantiated, data not located or data no longer available. While there remain some areas of data voids, the work serves its purpose for providing a re-cap of a proud historical period in a great program and a remembrance of all its outstanding coaches, staff and players.
