MLG 306 Oral History Project (Fall 2022)

Abstract

This interview was conducted with my father, Frank Crocitto, discussing his Italian roots and heritage. He was asked questions regarding his family, their history when coming to the United States, as well as financial questions and queries regarding Italian identity and practices. Prior to this interview I was already familiar with the fact that my fathers side of the family has Italian roots as well as the fact that he was not as familiar with the process regarding his grandparents coming to the United States. Within this interview I wished to learn more about not only my father and his upbringing, but more about my family as a whole and see if there was anything new for me to learn. Frank sat down face to face with me and was asked a series of questions verbally. I learned from this interview that there are some historical facts regarding my great grandparents that might be lost to time, however I did learn more about my great grandfather's profession as well as my fathers self identity. From this abstract I understood that it is okay to have lost certain details regarding family history, as the importance lies within spending quality time with your family to create memories you can look back on and cherish. Family has been one of the most impactful parts of my life, as a child, and now as a young adult, my family comes first.
