Abstract This paper explores high functioning youth on the spectrum, specifically autism/asperger syndrome with coexisting anxiety. The paper will identify some of the best therapies for youth with high functioning autism/asperger syndrome who experience anxiety. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) will be explored in some depth as a primary therapy utilized with this population. CBT and other pertinent therapies will be explored in an effort to be able to understand best practices for youth on the spectrum that might be struggling with debilitating anxiety. Effective therapy will likely aid them in effectively coping with anxiety issues resulting in negative effects on their ability to function and enjoy life.
