Notes:Almost certainly, this sketch is of James Sibley Watson, Jr., lifelong friend and patron of Cummings. Watson was a "Renaissance man;" he was a publisher, a patron of the arts, a physician (at the University of Rochester Medical Center), a photographer, and film maker. His 1928 film based on Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher was deemed "culturally significant" by the Library of Congress in 2000. Watson hailed from an influential family in Rochester; his grandfather, Hiram Sibley, helped to form Western Union, and his mother, Emily Sibley Watson, helped to found the Memorial Art Gallery and the Hochstein School of Music & Dance. Watson and his second wife, Nancy, donated the Cummings artwork collection to SUNY Brockport in 1978. He asked that it be named after his late wife, Hildegarde
