Abstract
Students who have Autism Spectrum Disorder have had a long history of challenges in America’s school system. Autistic children, despite their levels of intelligence have struggled to find a place in a mainstream classroom. There are evidence based practices and interventions that can be individually applied to Autistic students to help them to reach their potential in the public school system. However, Autistic students continue to lag behind their peers in terms of social and academic success. The purpose of this Master’s Thesis Project is to (a) define and discuss problems that many Autistic students face in the school setting, (b) discuss possible integration strategies and the services that are available in the school to help implement integration strategies and (c) describe effective support interventions for families and caregivers of students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
