Stanley Soules extracted the letters here from the pages of the Brockport Republic newspaper. They describe various carriage rides and excursions by train to places such as Troutburg on Lake Ontario, Portageville (subsequently Letchworth Park,) and Niagara Falls. They capture the spirit and life of an era long gone, from the interest in farming activities to reference to temperance and comments on train travel etc.
