Abstract

This session demonstrates the impact of Literacy Education within incarceration facilities on prisoners' reentry into society. It reveals the difference in recidivism rates by those inmates who take part in the programs versus those who do not take part in them. This session also depicts the importance of motivation within the programs, best practices for adult learners, the effects of the literacy education programs on post-release employment, and actions that can be taken in order to make the programs highly effective. The workshop delivers such information through a Power Point presentation, visuals, group-work, and discussions.
