Abstract

This interview is used to gain knowledge for Italian immigrants’ assimilation into America. Italian-American assimilation can be difficult for some and some may face challenges throughout their transition. This interview discusses ways in which adaptation to American culture can be handled. This also includes whether or not Italian practices or traditions were passed down throughout the family ancestors after coming to United States. This interview allows for others to understand Italian immigrants' journey to America as well as how they were first treated upon arrival. This was conducted through a series of questions being asked that were geared toward the assimilation process for the ancestor of the interviewee. Through the series of questions, I uncovered the knowledge that the ancestors had jobs lined up for them upon arrival and that their main reason for migration was in hopes for a better life. This interview allowed for the knowledge that not all assimilations into America are faced with discrimination, rather welcomed openly and accepted by the new local community.
