Abstract
A small, low-cost multirotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was constructed with the goal of optimizing capabilities while adhering to several design constraints. The multirotor UAV was able to deliver a payload to a set location after flying through several obstacles. In order to maintain the integrity of the constraints, ½ in PVC pipe and ABS plastic was used for fabricated parts. Several components were purchased through commercial vendors and modified specifically for integration with the flight system. The use of novel software and electronic components was essential to the completion of the project. The flight controller selected for the multirotor UAV, the CC3D (CopterControl 3D), uses an open source graphical interface designed specifically for programming radio controlled flight systems. The electronic and mechanical systems had to be developed in tandem so the quad copter could perform optimally. The multirotor UAV was able to outperform its competitors in Monroe Community College’s first Unmanned Aerial Vehicle competition.
