Abstract

This presentation explores the ways in which contemporary photographic artists utilize digital tools to not only advance traditional genres of pictorial art, but to also build upon new genres that have emerged out of the digital revolution. The first half of this presentation focuses on how the classical frameworks of portraits and landscapes have been interpreted though the use of digital technology over the past 20 years. The second half looks at how developing classifications of images such as surveillance photography and constructed street photography are shaping the ways we look at the world. This presentation offers audiences a concise survey of the development of photography created through digital mediums.
