GOV-1-24-25: Definitions and Term Limits for Temporary Executive Level Vacancies in Community Colleges

Abstract

SUNY's Community College Presidential Search Guidelines reference temporary presidential titles without defining them or specifying their authority, expectations, or term limits, creating governance risk and potential misalignment with Middle States (MSCHE) leadership and accountability expectations. The Faculty Council of Community Colleges calls on the SUNY Board of Trustees to (1) define each temporary title, (2) set clear terms of service including renewability and limits, and (3) enforce uniform rules including whether temporary appointees may apply for the permanent presidency.
