Abstract

Okanagan Charter for Health Promotion in Universities and Colleges provides a comprehensive framework for promoting and enhancing the health and well-being of our campus communities and embracing the principles outlined in the Okanagan Charter aligns with our campuses commitment to fostering a supportive and thriving environment for all members of our community. This resolution requests the Chancellor recommend adoption and attention to campus policies that align with the Okanagan Charter.

Description

Chancellor Response: I applaud and share the ongoing commitment of the UFS to the health and wellness of students, faculty, and staff. Under the leadership of Senior Vice Chancellor for Health and Hospital Affairs Valerie Grey, staff in the System Office of Academic Health and Hospital Affairs attended the 2024 United States Health Promoting Campuses Network conference at the University at Albany this past fall where the Okanagan Chater was a featured topic. Senior Vice Chancellor Grey’s office is working to create a new information resource for campus leadership designed to promote consideration of various wellness frameworks, including the Okanagan Charter, while being respectful of each campus’s need to make such decisions in light of local campus culture and immediate needs. This is a resource that will be broadly shared, raising visibility of the Okanagan framework and similar program offerings.
