Abstract
Description
Animation design and rendering by Alex Zubrovich, 2008. Alex is a high school junior and aspires to study computer graphic animation when he graduates next year. Nitric oxide is one of the simplest molecules found in nature. It is formed from nitrogen and oxygen, with the chemical formula NO, as illustrated in this animation. Its simple chemical structure, however, belies its complex and pervasive actions in the human body. NO has been demonstrated to be involved in the regulation of cardiovascular, pulmonary, and central nervous system function, and may play a vital role in novel treatment protocols for a host of diseases ranging from Alzheimer's disease to stroke. NO continues to be a molecule of immense biological interest and intense laboratory study today.
