Abstract
Scholars Day at SUNY Brockport was instituted in 1984 through the efforts of the
Faculty Senate. Scholars Day has continued during the last 12 years as a celebration of
scholarly pursuits by the campus community.
The purposes of Scholars Day are many:
1. To publicize research, including methodologies and conclusions;
2. To share new ideas and concepts;
3. To test theories and receive feedback on research-in-progress;
4. To expand one's knowledge base beyond the traditional classroom setting;
5. To co-mingle and socialize with campus citizens outside one's own department
and school.
This year, there are 125 presentations made by 200 faculty, staff, and students, taking
place in Edwards Hall, Tower Fine Arts Center, Holmes, Dailey, and Smith Hall. There
will also be nine exhibits by individuals and academic clubs in the corridors of Edwards
Hall. In addition to attendance by campus collegians, professors, administrators, and staff,
teachers_ and students from area high schools have been invited to attend as guests of the
College as they too participate in the intellectual and community spirit of the day.
