Abstract
This poster presentation will cover the effects of problem behaviors on long term foster care placement and interventions. There is substantial evidence that many children placed in foster care display behavioral problems (Pecora, Jensen, Romelli. Jackson, & Ortiz, 2009). It is important to understand the effects that the problem behaviors of children can have on long term foster care placement and adoption. Much of the time children who are placed in foster care have experienced trauma in their lives. Trauma may result in behavioral problems. It has been found that children's problem behaviors often increase when placed in a foster care home (Vanderfaeillie, Van Holen, Vanschoonlandt, Robberechts, & Stroobants, 2013). These behavioral issues can then have an impact on the children or adolescents' long term placement in a foster home or the possibility of being adopted. If behaviors of children are not understood, assessed and effective intervention is not implemented; there could be many different long term effects or consequences for children and youth.
