Abstract

This project explores Interpersonal Psychotherapy for adults with depression. IPT is diagnosis-targeted, time-limited, present-focused treatment that encourages the client to regain control of their mood and functioning. IPT regards depression as a medical illness and as a treatable condition, often combined with medication management. IPT has been clinically tested with success in a series of trials for mood and non-mood disorders. This project describes the purpose of APT, its roots in Attachment and Communication theories, and research behind IPT. This project uses scholarly data bases to discuss future research and recommendations.
