Abstract

Molly Haskell, feminist film critic for the Village Voice and author of "From Reverence to Rape: The Treatment of Women in the Movies," discusses the ways women are portrayed in both film and television. Haskell describes how culture and male influence shape that portrayal and her hopes for the future of women on screen. She begins the interview by reading a section of her book. She goes on to discuss television becoming dominant over movies, and talks about the transition of film into art. She then talks about the woman’s role in movies, discuses American films versus European films, and touches on women directors in the film industry. She ends the interview by discussing the credentials of a film critic.
