Replace NUR 322 with NUR 3xx Nursing Informatics in RN-BSN

Abstract

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) published new essentials in 2021 for undergraduate nursing curriculum, it included competencies that undergraduate nursing students need to meet prior to graduation. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) our accrediting agency, endorses these essentials. The undergraduate curriculum committee has identified a gap in the RN-BSN curriculum. The gap identified is related to domain #8 informatics and Healthcare Delivery. Hence the proposal to teach Informatics for the RN. The current RN-BSN course NUR 322: Pharmacotherapeutics for the RN no longer helps to meet the new essentials. The proposal is to replace NUR 322 a threecredit course with a new three-credit course NUR 3xx that focuses on Informatics in Healthcare.
