Abstract

The poet, editor and art critic John Ashbery begins the interview by reading his poem “Leaving the Atocha Station.” He briefly discusses this poem, and then talks about when he first began writing poetry and influences on his work. He continues by discussing the comparison between his poetry and modern art, as well as the comparison between his work and the work of similar poets. Ashbery talks about his prose poetry and ends the interview by reading part of his poem “The New Spirit,” from his book Three Poems.
