Abstract
This workshop will seek to have discussion around tackling the “differences” surrounding Trans and Non-binary identified persons. Alongside, the presentation will focus on understanding the damaging effects the Us vs. them mentality has on how we socialize with one another. Activities and workshop are reliant upon research conducted by Z Nicolazzo (2017), and Singh & Dickey, 2017). This workshop is fruitfully interactive.
GOAL/OUTCOME #1 Be compassionate towards others who experience life different than the current cultural norms.
GOAL/OUTCOME #2 Learn to be comfortable with being wrong / making a mistake.
GOAL/OUTCOME #3 Learn how to exercise one’s own vocabulary to enquire further about the world around them.
Description
Lucky Light, Double Major in Social Work and Health Science, The College at Brockport
Ms. Lucky Summer Light is a lascivious social work and health care science double major that has presented at local agencies, including University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Villa of Hope, and Hillside Family of Agencies. Ms. Light is currently conducting research on how Trans and Non-binary students navigate interpersonal relationships. Lastly, Ms. Light is working alongside the Diversity Office as a Diversity Conference Committee Member and Cultural Showcase Coordinator.
