Abstract
This proposal introduces a new interdisciplinary major of Forensic Science with Criminal Justice as the home department, partnering with Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, Math and Physics, This major is a response to continued interest in forensic science and investigations in the student population and society as a whole. With the growing emphasis on scientific data and evidence in investigations (criminal, civil and humanitarian) the relevance of this major cannot be overstated. Evidence processing "backlogs" across the country (e.g., in forensic DNA and firearms data analysis) demonstrate the need for such skills and knowledge in our justice system. Students who major in Forensic Science will have outstanding laboratory and analytical experience and knowledge at the time of graduation.
