Abstract

Parent involvement has been shown to be an important variable that positively influences children’s education. In spite of this, many parents do not appear to be getting involved in their children’s education. This lack of involvement may have a negative impact on student performance in and out of the classroom. In this research study I seek to answer two questions. First, does parent involvement increase student’s motivation to read? Second, does this increased motivation lead to improved student learning outcomes in school? The data collection methods include parent surveys, and teacher and student interviews. I believe the information that I collect has the potential to reinforce for teachers and parents the importance of parent involvement in student learning.
