Abstract
As a concept that is inherently interdisciplinary, sustainability education in college curricula is often stifled by departmental boundaries. We propose to overcome this challenge by developing modules that are easily incorporated into existing courses and curricula. Online publishing platforms provide the opportunity to distribute curricular materials that connect multiple disciplines in a flexible way, as well as provide a space to share student products across courses – a key component of our curriculum. Our goal is to recruit faculty across SUNY campuses to develop a freely-available modular curriculum, distributed using the Digital Commons of SUNY platform, to provide alternative pathways to traditional, program-bound sustainability education.
Description
Our project is progressing on time. We held a workshop in the fall, awarded mini-grants over the winterintersession, and are now working with faculty to develop modules on food sustainability.
