Abstract
This manual for a women's educational equity project indicates how mature minority women are encouraged and supported to enter and succeed in four-year arts and sciences institutions by using strategies drawn from a successful model, Project Turning Point, conducted at State University of New York College at Old Westbury since 1979. The strategies, processes, workshops offered, and motivational thrust are documented here for effective replication on other college campuses.Description
Project Turning Point is a program designed to significantly improve the enrollment and retention rates of mature, minority women in four-year colleges, and is dedicated to serving traditionally bypassed populations. It consists of a series of workshops, peer counseling, and support networks designed to identify areas of sexism and racism that prevent women from entering and succeeding in institutions of higher learning.Collections
