Abstract
The Department of Computing Science is proposing a new program, Master of Science in Computing Sciences. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the demand for computer and information scientists will increase by 21% in the coming decade. Although it is possible to find an excellent job with a bachelor's degree in the computing discipline, professionals with a master's degree get to choose from a broader range of job openings, rise to executive positions faster, and earn significantly higher average salaries. Other similar sized SUNY campuses have almost doubled their enrollments over the last year in graduate programs in Computer Science--with over 90% of enrollment comprising of international students. A consultant specializing in International Student Recruitment visited SUNY Brockport in September 2022and identified that both Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Computer Science (CSC) were program areas in demand by International Students to pursue graduate education. This proposal meets these trends and needs by combining CIS and CSC to offer a rigorous curriculum that will appeal to both domestic and international students.
