dc.description.abstractIsaac Hawkins, the son of Richard and Caroline Hawkins, worked for his father as a young man until the outbreak of the Civil War. In 1863, the twenty-year-old Hawkins enlisted at Medina and was placed with the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. After two months with the unit, he was captured at the Battle of Olustee and sent to Andersonville Prison.
