Using intersectionality theory, this research examines student perceptions of the racial campus climate at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Utilizing a purposive sample, forty students were interviewed to discern the various ways their interpersonal experiences shaped their view of the racial campus climate. The goal of the research was to analyze whether or not SUNY New Paltz felt welcoming to students of color. Through qualitative interviews, we examined the prevalence of microaggressions and their impact on students of color. Findings indicate that many students of color did experience microaggressions over the course of their education at SUNY New Paltz. However, respondents overwhelmingly indicated that they felt welcome and embraced, despite some racist incidences on campus.
