    Abstract
This presentation explores maladaptive behaviors among college students and breaking student codes of conduct. Current literature was reviewed to determine what factors contribute to maladaptive behaviors among college students and how institutions of higher education are responding to those behaviors that break student codes of conduct. The research study explored the effectiveness of mandated conduct interventions on lowering recidivism rates and attitude change regarding high risk maladaptive behaviors at a local comprehensive college. The quantitative data gathered was used to answer the following research question: Do mandated conduct interventions deter recidivism among college students? The method used was a cause and effect action research project. A purposive sample of college students who were found responsible for breaking the college’s code of conduct and sanctioned with an intervention were invited to participate in the study. Eligible students received a recruitment email with a link to an electronic consent document and survey. Research procedures were approved by the college’s Institutional Review Board.
