This poster examines Mediterranean dietary patterns and implications for eating disorder treatment outcomes. Over time nutritional deficits can cause profound disturbances in both brain function and mood. Adherence to a Mediterranean diet has demonstrated a preventative effect against depressive symptoms in previous studies. The high co-morbidity rate between depressive and eating disorders suggest a multi-disciplined treatment approach is necessary to achieve optimal treatment outcomes. Incorporating the basic tenants of the Mediterranean diet, in conjunction with established mental health approaches, may improve eating disorder treatment outcomes.
