AbstractWhile courses in anthropology traditionally center on providing students hands-on laboratory experiences, these experiences are difficult to replicate in an online setting. This aspect of traditional pedagogy limits our ability to deliver content to non-traditional and continuing students who may be only able to access education in a remote fashion. The goal of this project is to develop a digital and virtual studio lab that will enable online students to engage in anthropology laboratory learning experiences while also training them in new digital approaches to research. We will leverage state-of-the-art technology to enhance training in digital archaeology, forensics, zooarchaeology, and biological anthropology. On campus, we will create a dynamic learning environment that enables us to deliver new digital forms of traditionally physical objects that are used in teaching. In an online context, these tools and virtual collections will provide expanded access to collections and developed exercises.
