Educational Program Advancing Training in Interprofessional Networked Treatment (ePATIENT)
Abstract
Electronic medical records (EMRs) are a mainstay in healthcare systems. They electronically store patient information and allow for access by all members of a patient’s healthcare team. Patients are increasingly cared for by multiple providers, and a well-functioning EMR can improve access to information and promote communication among healthcare professionals. Healthcare professional training programs recognize the need for interprofessional education for students, however most do not incorporate educational EMRs into their programs because the available options lack the ability to access the EMR as a team to provide remote, timely and realistic care. We have developed ePATIENT, a basic functioning web-based educational EMR platform, that meets the above criteria. We request additional funding to develop the infrastructure needed to seamlessly share this platform across SUNY campuses, as well as improve the functionality and fully pilot the system with teams of faculty, students, and practicing providers.Description
