    Description
The art of taxidermy is a long-standing process that has seen little change since the 1800s. The goal is to recreate an animal that appears as natural as possible, be it for a trophy or for educational purposes. One issue commonly faced in taxidermy is that of insect infestations. When it comes to birds, one of the leading causes of these infestations is the skull. To combat insect infestations, artificial heads have started becoming available for taxidermy in a number of game bird species. However, select institutions that collect non-game species must still use the bird’s original skull as they are not commercially available. 3D printers could be the answer to this market void; which with knowledge of the appropriate software, can put the power of creation into the anyone’s fingertips.
