    Abstract
    from the abstract, "Subaqueous burial is a viable disposal alternative for isolating and containing dredged sediment. Although no large scale project of this type has been done, studies in New York Harbor and elsewhere show that such an operation is technically feasible and that the concept is environmentally safe. A successful burial operation would require the accurate and deliberate deposition of dredged sediment in a subaqueous pit and burial of the deposit under a sediment cap probably composed of sand. The cap should be thick enough to isolate the underlying deposit from burrowing organisms, protect the underlying deposit from disturbance by storm-generated waves and currents, and serve as a reservoir for pore water that would be expelled from the underlying deposit during consolidation. The basic principles of all the essential features of a successful operation have been demonstrated."
