    Abstract
from the summary, "This report is an inventory of the main sources of technical and scientific information published during this century (1900-1984) on the fishes (biology and life history) and finfisheries of the Peconic/Gardiners Bay system of eastern Long Island, New York. The general focus and important findings of more than 138 studies are summarized and annotated so that this body of knowledge can become a useable information source for natural resource managers, planners, and researchers. Recommendations for future study and resource conservation are addressed. A historical perspective on the scientific study of eastern Long Island fishes is presented. . . "
