    This is a relatively unknown photograph of the noted author. Most often what is seen is an image of her from later in life. This depicts her some years earlier, probably in the 1860s. It is from the collections of the Emily Knapp Museum in Brockport.

    This is a photograph of "Brown Cottage," the home Mary Jane Holmes and her husband lived in on the south side of College Street for many years. This photo is from about 1900. After the death of Mrs. Holmes and her husband, the house was sold, and unfortunately in the 1940s it was drastically remodeled.
