SUNY and Ongoing Changes to Scholarly Communication

Title: SUNY and Ongoing Changes to Scholarly Communication

Authors: Schumacher, John

Abstract: Methods of communicating scholarly works are in flux. New technological capabilities and changes to the business of publishing are some of the trends affecting this change. Two SUNY responses to these changes will be described: an institutional membership to the open access publisher BioMed Central and a SUNY-wide Digital Repository. Presenter and participants will discuss how librarians can facilitate the development of these responses.

Description: Presentation at SUNY Librarians Association 2006 Annual Conference (Geneseo, NY) June 16, 2006.

Faculty Rights in the Digital Age

Title: Faculty Rights in the Digital Age

Authors: Hatch, Carey

Abstract: This presentation encourages faculty to retain certain ownership/copyright rights of articles they publish. Retaining some rights allows authors to post their works in open access repositories. The presentation relies heavily on materials from Stephen Harnard and Tim Brody. The presentation was given to the SUNY Faculty Senate and later to the Multimedia Instructional Designers (MID) group.
